Where memory and emotion meet

Participate in a Research Study

Help us understand more about the human mind and brain!

Become a Research Participant

We have many research studies ongoing in our laboratory. You will be given a small stipend for your participation.

You must be 18 years or older to participate in this research. Please read the brief description of the research below, and if you are interested in more information about the studies or in determining whether you are eligible to participate, then please email us or complete this form.

Types of Research We Conduct

Computerized and pen-and-paper tests

This research examines how people process emotional information (things we find pleasant or unpleasant). Participation usually ranges from 1 to 4 hours, depending on the particular tasks that you are asked to perform.

Electroencephalography (EEG)

We use the non-invasive method of electroencephalography (EEG) to look at brain activity while viewing pictures and words. Participation usually requires a 3-4 hour time commitment.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

We use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to look at brain structure and brain function. The time commitment is usually 3-4 hours, and the MRIs take place at the Harvard Center for Brain Science in Cambridge, MA.

Assessments of Sleep Quality, Activity, and Mental Health

We use actigraphy wristwatches and polysomnography setups to examine the quality of people's sleep and the activity levels they achieve during the waking day. This monitoring can be done from your home, or in our sleep laboratory at Boston College.
